EGY, UNHCR, 2026 Emerg.Resp. SUD Crisis
The project aims to enable vulnerable refugees and asylum-seekers in Egypt to meet their basic needs through the provision of multipurpose cash assistance (MPCA), thereby reducing protection risks, preventing harmful coping mechanisms, and supporting dignity, resilience, and well-being. The intervention by UNHCR aims to strengthen coordination and harmonization of cash assistance interventions to maximize coverage, efficiency, and complementarity among humanitarian actors.

| Contexte |
• As of 31 May 2026, Egypt hosts 1'101'744 UNHCR registred refugees and Asylum Seekers. • In 2026 alone, 48’000 refugees registred with UNHCR, 77% of which are Sudanese and over 73’000 Sudanese refugees are awaiting registration. • As of February 2026, 1.5 million Sudanese nationals had arrived in the country, according to the Government. • +650,000 extremely and highly vulnerable refugees are left without support for rent, food, medicine, and other basic survival needs. • 92% of refugees in Egypt adopt food consumption-based coping strategies reducing meal portion and frequency and restricting consumption of adult in favor of children. |
