The dual vocational education training (VET) system has a long tradition in German-speaking countries, contributing to employment and income. Its adaptation in development contexts is often complex and challenging. By fostering networks between donor agencies on dual VET and by tapping into the experience of VET-communities, an exchange of best practices and synergies is realized that will improve VET projects and systems in partner countries and lead to a better international positioning of dual VET approaches.
Enhanced resilience of viticulture in Abkhazia

A vast area in Abkhazia was contaminated by the explosion of an ammunition warehouse in 2017. Clearance efforts supported by international experts are about to be completed, enabling the restoration of the land for agricultural purposes. Endemic grape varieties will be reintroduced fostering biodiversity and resistance to disease. Growers’ resilience to climatic and economic shocks will be enhanced by setting a sector association and training in advanced agricultural practices.
Vocational Skills Development in Egypt

Over 1 million young people enter the Egyptian labor market every year. A well governed Technical Vocation Education and Training (TVET) system is needed to ensure that skills match the demand, young people are integrated in the labor market and earn a decent income. Switzerland will co-finance BMZ’s Technical Support for the Comprehensive Technical Education Initiative (TCTI), and contribute to the qualitative development and expansion of dual Vocational Education and Training (VET) by integrating the private sector requests and using a sectoral approach.

COSUDE continuará apoyando a la Cruz Roja Colombiana a expandir su respuesta humanitaria y articularla a la integración socioeconómica de migrantes y refugiados venezolanos. Se trabajará en el nexo entre respuesta humanitaria y estabilización socioeconómica en Bogotá, Soacha y Santa Marta; contextos con múltiples riesgos de protección asociados a economías ilegales y conflicto armado, especialmente para mujeres, jóvenes y niños.

Modernizing VET in Agriculture in Armenia

While 37% of Armenia’s labour force is employed in agriculture, men and women do not earn sufficient income, incl. due to a lack of professional skills. This multi-stakeholder intervention, which includes a SDC contribution, further develops country-wide work-based learning education, strengthens specialized institutions and modernizes the regulatory framework, enabling professionals and graduates to acquire relevant qualification, find employment or establish their own businesses.

Promoting Private Sector Employment (PPSE)

The last phase of PPSE will continue to help enterprises in the Food and Natural Ingredients (FNI) and tourism sectors grow through increasing competiveness, product diversification and improving access to markets, thus creating jobs in Kosovo, with focus on women and minorities. Further, by improving sector coordination, PPSE improves public-private dialogue and achieves sustainable results.

Energy and Environment Partnership Africa Trust Fund

With financing to the Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund Africa, Switzerland will help provide early stage grants and catalytic financing to innovative clean energy projects, technologies and business models implemented by private actors in Zambia and Zimbabwe. Switzerland’s contribution increases access to clean energy by vulnerable and underserved groups and consolidates its engagement in climate change mitigation.
Regional Arts and Culture Project in the South Caucasus

Inclusive Urbanisation

The program contributes to inclusive urbanization in Central America in partnership with UN-Habitat with the aim to improve the living conditions of vulnerable populations in urban settlements. Solid data and evidence on informal settlements and specialised advisory will contribute to improve urban policies. Capacity building, participatory planning approaches and increased involvement of the private sector will foster comprehensive and feasible solutions for informal settlements.

More than a year and a half after the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, the virus is still dominating the health, social and economic life worldwide. In the frame of its Covid-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan (SPRP), WHO and partners are strengthening health systems of middle- and lower-income countries in their capacities to enable the rapid uptake and delivery of Covid-19 tools (vaccines, therapies and diagnostics) and to become more resilient to provide essential services at country level.

The Resident Coordinator System is an indispensable aspect of the UN Development System (UNDS) Reform. Mandated to lead and coordinate the UN engagement at global, regional and country level, the RC System relies on predictable and sustainable funding. A contribution to the RC Trust Fund supports the roll out of the UNDS Reform, reconfirms Switzerland’s position as a UNDS reform champion and provides leverage for Switzerland’s multilateral reform dialogue.
RAPID+ The Kenya Arid Lands Partnership for Integrated Development Plus

Pastoralist communities in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) have for a very long time adapted to the harsh environments to derive livelihoods (mainly livestock). Communities in the ASALs are facing multiple pressures of climate change, degraded natural resources and conflicts. This program supports the historically marginalised and under-developed pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya to access safe, reliable and affordable Water and manage their rangeland ecosystem sustainably.
