Strengthening Livelihoods and Social Inclusion in Georgia's Forest Sector Reform

As part of a comprehensive forest sector reform, the proposed project contribution aims at diversifying livelihood opportunities of target forest dependent communities and at strengthening the local capacities in forest management in a sustainable manner. This is particularly relevant since up to 90% of Georgia’s rural households rely on forests for energy and other purposes, leading to progressive forest degradation. The COVID-19 crisis further aggravates economic hardship of the most vulnerable groups among them.

ENUFF - Enhancing Nutrition of Upland Farming Families

Despite a sustained economic growth of 7.7% over the last decade of Lao PDR, children under five, nationally, 21% are underweight, 33% are stunted and 9% wasted (2017). Based on initial achievements and lessons learned from phase one, Switzerland, with its leave no one behind value, will provide support for a second and final phase to the government­’s multi-sectoral approach that integrates agriculture, nutrition, sanitation and hygiene. The geographical scope expands to 20 new remote villages and targets women, men and children.


International Development Association (IDA) 19 – Core Contribution 2020-2023

IDA helps the world’s poorest countries to end poverty, build shared prosperity and promote sustainable development. It is one of the largest global sources of development funding and, combined with the larger World Bank Group (WBG), a unique source of knowledge and key actor providing support to countries to implement the 2030 Agenda. Switzerland contributes to IDA’s replenishments every three years and is a top ten donor. This allows Switzerland to remain an influential member of the WBG. IDA’s priority themes (climate, jobs, fragility, governance, gender) align closely with Swiss development objectives and interests.

Smallholder Safety Net Up-scaling Pro-gramme (SSNUP)

Smallholder Safety Net Up-scaling Programme is a multi-donor public private partnership to support small and medium agribusiness enterprises, farmer organisations and financial intermediaries in providing effective services to their smallholder farmer customers and members, thereby reducing their farm and livelihood risks. The programme will lead to higher incomes and more jobs notably for women as well as increased food security, contributing to improved livelihoods of an estimated 3 million smallholder households applying more sustainable farm practices.

SDP - Skills Development Programme

Skills Development remains high on Cambodia’s national agenda. Switzerland will scale up its support to youth in rural poor areas to access skill development, equipping them with relevant skills to access employment and improve their incomes. Swiss expertise will also contribute to improve the Technical and Vocational Education and Training system to be more inclusive and strengthen its implementation in collaboration with the private sector to respond to labour market needs.

M4C - Making Markets Work for the Jamuna, Padma and Teesta Chars

Leveraging on Switzerland’s longstanding engagement and experience in pro-poor agricultural market development, this project will benefit 75,000 poor and disadvantaged households living on riverine islands through profitable and environmentally sustainable livelihoods options. Thanks to improved access to agricultural inputs and services, access to output markets and financial services, they will generate an additional income of CHF 14.5 million to be invested into the diversification of their farm business and basic needs.

NAMDP - Nepal Agricultural Markets Development Program

This market systems development project seeks to stimulate job creation and increase income, including for women and disadvantaged groups, through a successful transformation of agricultural markets in Province 1 of Nepal. Leveraging Swiss expertise in market systems and geographical focus in the province, it will align with the provincial government’s priorities and strengthen its potential to effectively regulate, nurture and stimulate markets’ productivity and competitiveness.

Inclusive Insurance

Most of Bolivia's population is exposed to various risks that may trigger situations of poverty; in addition, the country is located in a region that is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. During the previous phases, the project sought to motivate actors in the insurance market to implement inclusive and agricultural insurance; the exit phase seeks to consolidate the conditions enabling the innovative and sustainable operation of this insurance market.  


GBVPR - Gender-based Violence Prevention and Response Project

With its longstanding experience in promoting psychosocial support services and a strong engagement in support of federal state building, Switzerland is well positioned to engage on reducing all forms of GBV and discrimination against women in Nepal. The project aims at strengthening and institutionalizing a coordinated, survivor-centred response for GBV victims, addressing root causes and engaging with all government levels for a more gender equitable policy environment.

Rural Small and Medium Enterprises Development in Georgia

Georgia’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are poorly performing in terms of productivity and job creation. The project aims at enhancing accessibility for rural business support services and affordable financing, which are the major causes of underperformance. With improved capacities and competitiveness, rural SMEs will increase productivity, diversify markets, be resilient to external shocks (such as COVID-19 crisis) and create jobs and income opportunities for rural women and men.

Switzerland promotes growth of impact-first enterprises in Tanzania through the provision of tailored technical assistance and innovative impact-linked financing (ILF) instruments. Support to enterprises is tied to their potential or proven social impact, measured against the extent of improvements in social and economic well-being among poor youths and young women. Switzerland further promotes strategic policy dialogues, paving way for systemic support to impact-first enterprises. 


AREN - Programme d’appui au renforcement de l’enseignement normal au Mali

Au Mali, environ deux tiers des élèves terminent le cycle primaire sans avoir acquis les compétences de base. Ce constat est dû, en partie, à l’inadéquation des programmes de formation des enseignants avec ceux de l’école fondamentale. Au regard du contexte, le système scolaire doit développer des alternatives éducatives. Le programme AREN cible la formation et la gestion des enseignants pour contribuer à renforcer la qualité et la performance du système d’éducation du Mali et prépare les futurs enseignants pour faire face à la crise.
