Regional Local Economic Development in the East-West Economic Corridor (RLED-EWEC)

SDC has entered into a partnership with the Mekong Institute – an intergovernmental institution owned by the GMS countries’ governments – to foster an enabling environment for economic growth in rural areas. The goal is to contribute to the alleviation of poverty in the region.

Améliorer la sécurité alimentaire par une gouvernance foncière responsable et démocratique

Une importante croissance économique en République démocratique populaire du Laos a intensifié les conflits et la compétition pour la terre, ce qui compromet la sécurité alimentaire, les efforts de réduction de la pauvreté et la biodiversité. En 2009, la DDC a lancé le projet «Rights-LINK» pour améliorer la gestion des terres et des ressources naturelles du pays. Ce projet vise à garantir que les processus législatifs et décisionnels concernant la terre et son utilisation soient inclusifs et transparents.

Poverty Alleviation in Remote Upland Areas (PARUA)

PARUA is addressing poverty and food security of uplands ethnic communities in Lao PDR. It is aiming at supporting Prai villages, which belong to most marginalized and vulnerable ethnic poor. PARUA 3 will strengthen the capacity of government at local levels and the Prai people to establish improved pre-conditions for sustainable development through different modalities of public/private partnerships and private initiatives. By funding PARUA project, SDC has gained a strong understanding of the complexity of ethnic groups dynamics.

Governance and Public Administration Reform (GPAR)

In Lao PDR, it is crucial that investments on land are appropriately planned and managed for the sustainability of the country’s natural capital and its capacity to adapt to climate change, and for ensuring that the livelihoods of the poor and vulnerable are improved and not harmed by unaccounted social and environmental investment impacts. UNDP/UNEP Poverty-Environment Initiative program phase II will strengthen capacity of central and provincial authorities to integrate poverty and environment criteria in development planning.
