Strengthening Protection and Resilience for Vulnerable Communities in Yemen
Protection issues are a driver and effect of deepening humanitarian needs in Yemen. This thematic contribution to the NRC Protection portfolio will boost NRC capacities to deliver protection services and legal assistance to vulnerable individuals, strengthen communities’ protective capacities, and to uphold protection coordination of the humanitarian system in Yemen. In doing so, SDC takes a principled stance to maintain operational space for protection activities in the whole of Yemen.

| Contexte | Yemen remains one of the most complex and acute humanitarian crises in 2026: 22,3 million people require humanitarian assistance and protection. Protection risks – both structural and conflict-related – are one of the key drivers of humanitarian needs in Yemen, leading to displacement, food insecurity, economic vulnerability. At the same time, the system’s ability to respond is curtailed by funding cuts and severe operational constraints. With a fractured and increasingly restrictive humanitarian space, flexible, and well-established humanitarian actors are essential to ensure operational reach/services, visibility of the sector and application of agreed standards |
