Scholarships Programme in Mongolia

The initiative of Zorig Foundation to provide scholarships to university students from low income families is coherent with the Swiss Cooperation Strategy in Mongolia , which is to contribute to improved and securer livelihoods of herder and ex-herder families.

Therefore, SDC partners with the Zorig Foundation to implement “Scholarship Programme” to address these unequal chances for gifted youngsters of poor families. Each year about 150 students receive scholarships, equalling to 80 percent of their tuition fee.

The beneficiaries are also required to design and implement a small social project, learning to do a project and effective team work. All graduating students were enabled to successfully complete their studies and find jobs.

The overall goal of the programme is to provide access to tertiary education for bright young men and women from rural and urban disadvantaged families.

University students from low-income families 

Outcome 1: 200 male and female talented students improve their employability by receiving scholarships for demand-oriented higher education.  

Outcome 2:  Through participation in community development projects, students contribute to social development in urban and rural areas.

Risultati raggiunti:  

• More than 800 students from low-income families have been awarded university tuition in the past eight years;
• A study in 2014 found that more than 90 percent of scholarship recipients found jobs after graduation.
