Senior Counsellor for Humanitarian Affairs with the Permanent Representation of Switzerland to FAO, IFAD and WFP in Rome
The “Message on Switzerland’s International Cooperation in 2013-2016” clearly advocates for an increased international engagement. WFP is Switzerland’s largest humanitarian UN partner. In April 2012, the ECOSOC in New York elected Switzerland as Board member of the WFP Executive Board – the governing body of the WFP – for the years 2013-2014. In order to represent Switzerland in the WFP Executive Board, a Senior Counsellor for Humanitarian Affairs will be placed at the Permanent Representation of Switzerland to FAO, IFAD and WFP.

Hunger is one of the greatest threats to humanity, affecting close to one billion people across the globe. The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger and under-nutrition. It is Switzerland’s largest humanitarian United Nations partner and receives the largest amount of Swiss Humanitarian Aid support to any UN organization. The WFP Executive Board is the governing body of the WFP and as such oversees WFP's humanitarian and development food aid activities. It is an important decision-making body. It is composed of 36 States to be elected by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) and the Council of FAO. In April 2012, the ECOSOC in New York elected Switzerland as Board member of the WFP Executive Board for the years 2013 and 2014. In order to represent Switzerland in the WFP Executive Board, a Senior Counsellor for Humanitarian Affairs will be placed at the Perma-nent Representation of Switzerland to FAO, IFAD and WFP. |
