Victim Assistance: Access to Rehabilitation and Linking Mine Action to Development – Multiyear Contribution to SFD Appeal 2013-2014
Switzerland supports activities aimed at banning anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions as well as to alleviating the humanitarian suffering and socio-economic consequences caused by mines and all types of explosive remnants of war. Mine action is of direct relevance for the implementation and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), which serve as an important reference point for Switzerland.

| Contesto |
According to the International Campaign to Ban Landmines ICBL (Landmine Monitor Report, 2012), around the world, there are up to 500,000 survivors of Mines and Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) or Unexploded Ordnances (UXO), the majority of which are in need of more appropriate assistance and empowerment for them and their families. This number is much higher when taking into consideration small arms, natural disasters or other accidents resulting in a permanent handicap for the affected person. In early 2008, SDC-HA has consolidated its strategy regarding Victim Assistance that now includes all victims (not only mine victims) and people with disabilities, without discrimination, living in a humanitarian or development context. |
