Support to IDPS CSO Activities – Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding
By supporting the activities of the Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding, SDC commits to the inclusiveness of policy processes concerned with conflict and fragility with a long-term perspective. The Platform’s purpose is to strengthen the participation of civil society organisations in processes under the New Deal for Engagement in Fragile States. Fostering civil society participation in conflict affected and fragile contexts is an important element of Switzerland’s commitment as co-chair of the OECD’s International Network for Conflict & Fragility.

Around 50% of SDC’s partner countries are considered fragile, and an increasing share of ODA is directed into programmes that target causes of fragility and conflict. The New Deal for Engagement in Fragile States – signed by Switzerland in 2011 –provides a framework for peacebuilding and statebuilding and is governed by the International Dialogue on Peace and Statebuilding (IDPS) consisting of Donor governments and multilateral organisations on the one side, the g7+ group of fragile and conflict-affected states on the other and civil society is a key actor, aiming for inclusion is as condition for sustainable transitions out of fragility. The Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (CSPPS) coordinates the participation of international and national CSOs in local processes in g7+ countries, and globally via its Secretariat in The Hague. SDC’s prominent support for the CSPPS upcoming activities in 2015-2017 is in line with its intention to steer international cooperation towards strengthening institutional development processes in fragile and conflict-affected contexts as also outlined in the negotiations on the post 2015 agenda and the Financing for development processes. In line with the provisions of the new SDC Peacebuilding and Statebuilding Strategy, inclusiveness is key for these. The CSPPS is the central partner as concerns the inclusion of civil society in the New Deal. |
