Official visit by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri

During his official visit to Switzerland, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri was received by President Leuthard at the Von Wattenwyl House in Bern on 15 June. The meeting allowed the two to discuss the economic situation and the impact of the financial crisis in Georgia and Switzerland, as well as bilateral relations. At the end of the meeting, a double taxation agreement was signed between Georgia and Switzerland.

At a working lunch hosted by the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs,
Micheline Calmy-Rey, discussions focussed on questions regarding Swiss technical cooperation in Georgia, the situation in Georgia and the Southern Caucasus, as well as the representation of Georgian interests in Russia since March 2009.

Georgia, a country in the Southern Caucasus, is a significant partner for Switzerland. In economic terms, the country is currently experiencing a phase of rapid development and is striving to increase its presence on the international stage. Georgia plays an important role as a transit country for energy resources originating from Azerbaijan and Central Asia.
