Switzerland has learned with great concern of the findings of the report by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on violations of human rights and international humanitarian law that occurred in March 2022 during a military operation in Murah, Mali. Switzerland calls on the Malian authorities to conduct an impartial, independent and effective investigation in order to ensure justice for the victims.

More generally, Switzerland is deeply concerned by reports of continuing violations and abuses against the civilian population throughout Mali. It calls on all parties to the conflict to respect their obligations under international law, including the protection of civilians.

Switzerland remains committed to the prevention of violent extremism, the fight against impunity, dialogue and peace.
