La conseillère fédérale Simonetta Sommaruga a reçu aujourd’hui à Berne deux représentants du Quartet tunisien du dialogue national, lauréat du prix Nobel de la paix 2015. Durant sa rencontre avec Abdessattar ben Moussa, président de la Ligue tunisienne des droits de l’homme, et Fadhel Mahfoudh, président de l’Ordre national des avocats de Tunisie, la cheffe du Département fédéral de justice et police (DFJP) a souligné l’importance de la société civile dans le fonctionnement démocratique.
Conference on engagement in fragile states and official working meeting: Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter to travel to Stockholm and Berlin
Federal Councillor and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) Didier Burkhalter will attend the 5th Global Meeting of the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (IDPS) in Stockholm on 5 April 2016. On the afternoon of 6 April, Mr Burkhalter will travel to Berlin for an official working meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Beyond one’s own four kitchen walls – the SDC gives an insight into development cooperation
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) invites visitors to this year's BEA (Hall 1.1) to come smell, taste and discover. In its special exhibition entitled 'Beyond one’s own four kitchen walls' it shows by way of seven examples from different continents how it contributes to the reduction of poverty and hunger, and to ecologically sound agriculture. This year's BEA will be held in Bern from 29 April to 8 May 2016.
Switzerland to attend IMF and World Bank 2016 Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C.
Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer as Head of the Swiss delegation and Thomas Jordan, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank, will take part in the joint Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C., from 15 to 17 April 2016. In the run-up to the meetings, Switzerland will additionally take part in the second meeting of the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors under China’s Presidency. The global economic outlook and the situation on financial markets will be the key topics. In the case of the World Bank Group, the spotlight will be on the institution's role with regard to addressing new global development challenges.
First high-level visit from Switzerland in Iraq since more than a decade: State Secretary Yves Rossier in Baghdad, Najaf and Erbil
The State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Yves Rossier was on official visit to the Republic of Iraq from 19th till 22nd April 2016 where he visited Baghdad, Najaf and Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. This was the first visit to Iraq at such a political level since more than a decade.
