Development cooperation and humanitarian aid from the UN

Poverty, AIDS, environmental degradation and water scarcity are just a few of the challenges that individual countries can no longer meet on their own. The United Nations (UN) play a central role in development cooperation and humanitarian aid worldwide. Switzerland also participates in the commitment of the international community.

In recent years Switzerland has channelled around 40% of its public development aid through international organizations. It is one of the most important providers of funds for the UN’s most significant development programmes.

Switzerland makes financial contributions and participates actively in the executive organs of these organizations. Most Swiss public funds for development are reserved for bilateral projects, which however are coordinated with UN programmes.

The 4/17 edition of SPS looks at how to maintain contact between the mission and home base over distance and time.

Sustainable Development Geek is game that encourages debate and reflection about sustainable development across the globe. The game is inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals, as set out in the United Nations’ Agenda 2030. It is suitable for players age 12 and above and for groups of 2 or more. The game can also be used for facilitation or for larger events with up to 120 participants.




Czech republic: Small-scale environmental projects

A Swiss-backed fund supported 33 environmental projects put forward by different municipalities and organisations. For example, the town of Prachatice organised seminars and excursions on the theme of waste separation and composting. Another project breathed new life into the Negrelli Viaduct in Prague, inviting restaurants, shops and exhibitions to open under its arches.

The action plan demonstrates how Switzerland and its partners team up to play a leading role in efforts to abolish capital punishment worldwide. Switzerland categorically opposes the death penalty under all circumstances.
