Nella Repubblica Ceca la Svizzera finanzia un progetto volto a modernizzare il sistema giudiziario e a favorire il reinserimento socio-economico degli autori di reati. Il progetto si avvale soprattutto delle esperienze del Canton Zurigo.

Development of tools to help the visually impaired

The project developed portable cell-phone-based apps for visual recognition. This tool shall help blind people in every-day life. An additional project component explored the possibility how to restore eyesight through optogenetic technologies in combination with bionic vision enhancement. Cooperating with the Swiss Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel, the research project gave opportunities for important scientific exchange.

Increasing fire safety in Estonia

The project aims at increasing the fire safety of 24-hour social welfare and health care institutions, which are over 200 nursing homes and hospitals. To achieve this goal the fire safety requirements for these buildings are prepared, manuals drafted and the staff of these establishments is trained.

Screening and utilisation of liquid wastes

The project will develop new treatment methods for liquid waste from the pharmaceutical and fine chemistry industry, in order to contribute to the improvement of water quality and to better utilise the waste for, e.g. denitrification in biological wastewater treatment or for the production of bio-gas.

Radioactive Waste Disposal

The objectives of the project are to make specific contributions to the safety assessment of the future radioactive waste repositories through an understanding of relevant retention/retardation mechanisms and processes, and to provide the necessary models and databases. Investigation of the geochemistry of radioactive waste disposal systems. The goal of the project is the demonstration of long-term isolation technology in underground repository.

Support for the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies (MEDAC)

A long-standing strategic partnership is developing between Switzerland and Malta with the aim of building confidence and promoting peace and stability in the Mediterranean Region. Switzer-land supports the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies (MEDAC) through a resident Swiss professor and scholarships for junior diplomats from North Africa and the Middle East to take MEDAC's Master of Diplomacy.

Schengen Issues

The project was aimed to strenghten the personnel capacities of all stake-holders concerning Schengen topics with a main focus on SIS and SIRENE in view of Romania's joining Schengen in March 2011. Activities included flyers for police officers, posters for the general public and counselling of the SIRENE Bureau by fedpol.
