Press releases, 26.11.2024

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, head of the FDFA, will travel to Rome on 28 and 29 November to open the Forum for Dialogue between Switzerland and Italy together with Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani. On the margins of the forum, Mr Cassis will participate in an international congress on the abolition of the death penalty hosted by the Community of Sant'Egidio.

Centred on the theme of innovation ('L'innovazione al servizio della vita'), this 7th edition of the forum will be opened by Mr Cassis and Mr Tajani. Around 100 leading representatives from the economic, political, scientific, and cultural sectors in both countries will convene to discuss cooperation in key areas such as healthcare, which is closely linked to technological innovation. The Canton of Ticino, as this edition's guest of honour, will be represented by a delegation headed by Christian Vitta, president of its State Council. On the margins of the forum, Mr Cassis and Mr Tajani will also hold bilateral talks on Swiss-Italian relations and pressing international issues.

On 28 November, Mr Cassis will also attend the 14th World Congress against the Death Penalty, hosted by Sant'Egidio, an international organisation dedicated to promoting peace. The congress will bring together ministers from several countries, including representatives from states that have not yet abolished capital punishment.

On Friday, 29 November, Mr Cassis and the delegation of the Canton of Ticino will meet with Italy's Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti. Mr Cassis will also hold meetings with Qu Dongyu, director-general of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and Alvaro Lario, president of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
