President Karin Keller-Sutter to attend meeting of EU's Economic and Financial Affairs Council

Press releases, 07.04.2025

On 11 April 2025, Karin Keller-Sutter, President of the Swiss Confederation, will attend the informal meeting of the EU's Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) in Warsaw. The purpose of the meeting is to promote European exchanges on international financial and tax issues.

Switzerland will attend the informal Ecofin meeting for the first time. The Polish presidency of the Council of the EU extended the invitation last year, on the occasion of the meeting of the Swiss constituency in the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Tajikistan.

In Warsaw, President Karin Keller-Sutter will take part in a discussion between ministers of finance and economic affairs on the topic of economic growth in Europe against the backdrop of geopolitical developments. She will also make use of the informal ECOFIN Council for bilateral ministerial meetings.

No decisions are taken during the semi-annual informal meetings of the ECOFIN Council; instead, they provide a forum for an exchange of views between the heads of finance ministries and central bank governors. The current Council presidency organises these meetings in its own country.
