Panel discussion

H.E. Urs Bucher, Ambassador of Switzerland to the EU, cordially invites you to join the discussion followed by a buffet lunch

Agriculture in a changing climate: Future policies in Switzerland and the EU

on Wednesday, 2 October 2019 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm
(the lunch buffet will be open until 1:00 pm) at the Mission of Switzerland to the EU, Place du Luxembourg 1, 1050 Brussels.

Present for an introductory speech and an interactive discussion will be:

  • Peter Wehrheim, Member of Cabinet of Phil Hogan (Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development), European Commission
  • Adrian Aebi, Assistant Director-General, Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture
  • Fabienne Thomas, Head of the Energy and Environment Department, Swiss Farmers’ Union

Both the EU and the Swiss agricultural policies are currently being revised. Although the challenges we face are similar, the solutions are often not. Climate change is often cited as the most pressing issue of our time – and agriculture is asked to do its share in reducing greenhouse gas emissions while at the same time delivering food security.

But how can we make sure that ideas and commitments are translated into concrete measures and actions? What incentives and measures are the most effective ones? How does policy need to change in order to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and what could be the role of agriculture in achieving this? How do we bring farmers, consumers and policy makers on board?

Our speakers would like to discuss this hot topic with you - do not hesitate to contribute your thoughts and ideas during the interactive discussion or bilaterally during our buffet lunch.
