The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA has decided that the consular services (passports, identity cards, visa, civil status, registration etc.) of this Embassy will in the future be handled by a regional consular center. 

The office stated below is since October 3, 2011 responsible for these services.

The FDFA is aware that this will lead to longer travel distances for some of our compatriots. This will affect you in particular where a personal appearance is required, for example for the registration of biometric data for passports and identity cards.

To prevent this and in agreement with the regional consular center Vienna you will in the future be able to process your applications for identity documents in any other Swiss representation with consular services or in a cantonal passport office in Switzerland. The FDFA in collaboration with the Federal Department of Justice and Police is also planning to introduce a new mobile solution that will allow carrying out consultations on site in your country of residence.

Furthermore we are permanently developing our online support. The new telephone helpline (+41-800-24-7-365) of the Consular Affairs Headquarters in Berne/Switzerland is operational since the beginning of 2011. This helpline is now in the process of being expanded and will in the course of this year be at your service 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.

The Embassy of Switzerland in Budapest remains of course open and available for any other matters and questions.
