Switzerland is taking part in monitoring and international reporting on implementation, as well as in measuring the results of the 2030 Agenda, specifically as part of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) within the UN. It will submit its first comprehensive country report on the implementation of the SDGs to the HLPF in 2018. A report will also be released to the general public at the same time. It will be drafted in partnership with the cantons, communes and non-governmental actors.
Relationship between reporting and the Sustainable Development Strategy
Reporting on the status of implementing the 2030 Agenda, and Switzerland's Sustainable Development Strategy, are both planned around a four-year cycle, which is itself determined by the legislative period. Reporting is intended to permit the federal government to take stock of progress in the middle of each legislative term. This will happen for the first time in 2018. It will provide a basis for determining the action that must be taken in the future to meet the SDGs. It will also provide a foundation for the areas of focus for the Sustainable Development Strategy for the next legislative period.
