Switzerland has been strongly committed from the outset to the development of the 2030 Agenda, and has also helped to determine its content. It was actively involved in drafting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the mechanism to follow up and review progress.
One of Switzerland's concerns was that the new Goals should reflect a balance of the social, economic and environment-related aspects of sustainable development, and take into account how the different Goals interact with each other. In negotiations, Switzerland worked particularly hard to ensure the inclusion of individual goals on health, gender equality, water, peace and inclusive societies. It was also vocal in its support for aspects such as sustainable consumption and production, disaster risk reduction and the role of migration in sustainable development to be included prominently in the 2030 Agenda.
