Madagascar est menacé par le cyclone Batsirai. Les dégâts et l’impact humanitaire sont considérés comme potentiellement importants vu la puissance du cyclone et la vulnérabilité de la population exposée. En renforçant ses partenaires établis sur place par l’envoi d’experts, de matériel et de ressources financières, l’aide humanitaire suisse contribue à la réponse d’urgence. La priorité est donnée et à une intervention préliminaire basée sur l’eau et l’assainissement. Suivant l’évolution de la situation, d’autres actions pourront au besoin être décidées.

WFP Cyclone Batsirai Emergency Response

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to the World Food Programme (WFP) operations allows WFP to respond proactively and to provide immediate food assistance in life-threatening situations. This additional contribution supports WFP’s emergency response to the harm and disaster caused by cyclone Batsirai in eastern Madagascar.

Through the usage of food aid in the form of Swiss dairy products, Swiss Humanitarian Aid contributes to the prevention and treatment of malnutrition, undernourishment, and disease. The SDC’s Humanitarian Aid administers the credit granted by parliament for a yearly amount of some CHF 20 million destined for the purchase of Swiss dairy products and their use for the benefit of the needy. Its task is to ensure a sustainable, targeted, and closely monitored food aid.
