Introduction of the VIS
In 2011 the Schengen member states introduced the Visa Information System (VIS). The VIS is also used to store the biometric data (10 fingerprints and the facial image) of the visa applicants. The diplomatic representations of the Schengen member states are connected to the system.
Along with the VIS the biometric data of persons applying for a Schengen visa will have to be captured. Therefore, every visa client has to make an appointment prior to applying for a visa.
Click here for more information related to the introduction of the VIS and the capture of biometric data.
