The Science Counselor at the Embassy of Switzerland in Singapore is part of the global swissnex network, created by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). The role aims to strengthen cooperation between Switzerland and Singapore in science, technology, higher education, and innovation. The Science Counselor follows key developments in Singapore’s research and innovation landscape, builds strong relationships with local institutions and industry partners, and organises events that encourage exchange and collaboration.

ThinkSwiss scholarship for Singapore-based undergrad and grad students

ThinkSwiss Research Scholarships offers the opportunity for undergrad and grad students enrolled in a Singapore university to pursue a two to three months research internship in a public Swiss institution. Successful candidates will receive a prorated amount according to the length of their stay on the basis of approximately CHF$1,800 per month.

Scholarship Opportunities by the Swiss Government

Each year, the Embassy facilitates two scholarship programs that support academic exchange:

  • ThinkSwiss Research Scholarships support short research stays (2–3 months) for Singapore- and Brunei-based undergraduate and graduate students at public Swiss universities. Scholarships are awarded on a monthly basis (approx. CHF 1,800/month). Find all relevant information here.
  • Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are offered annually to outstanding young researchers (PhD and Postdoc) and artists from over 180 countries, including Singapore and Brunei. Managed by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS), these scholarships support doctoral or postdoctoral research, as well as specialized arts programs, at Swiss public institutions. Work Holiday Programme for Switzerland-based students and graduates

Under this programme, university undergraduates and graduates aged 18 to 25 of all nationalities studying in public universities in Switzerland are allowed to live and work in Singapore for up to six months.

Swiss Academic Presence in Singapore

Singapore is home to Switzerland’s largest academic presence abroad, with five Swiss academic institutions currently established in the country. This presence spans the full spectrum of education, research, and innovation—from primary and secondary education at the Swiss School in Singapore, to academic and executive programs at EHL, SGI (University of St.Gallen), and IMD, as well as applied research at the Singapore-ETH Centre.
