Program Contribution to Fastenopfer (FO) 2019 - 2020

• A new paradigm calls for shared but differentiated responsibility in reducing poverty, inequalities, promoting sustainable development and managing global risks (UN Agenda 2030). This requires extended finance and new institutional commitments, e.g. from private sector.
• Socio-demographic: The poorest 40% of the global population have access to only 5% of global income. One third live in fragile countries and have no secured access to basic services, to rights and resources. Millions are forced to migrate due to economic hardship, climate change or political prosecution. Women are particularly vulnerable.
• Economic, Markets and Finance: Structural gaps and weaknesses in international trade and investment, in the tax and financial systems create protracted inequalities. The result is that despite remarkable economic achievements in many countries during the last two decades, poor people in least developed and low income countries remain disadvantaged and their rights are not respected.
• Environmental: Past economic growth has largely been built on the excessive and unsustainable use of natural resources and environmental systems. Consequences of climate change result in increased stress on farmers and exposed societies with limited own capacity to cope with the natural hazards and disasters.  
  

• Target groups have improved access to sufficient and nutritious food.
• Target groups organize themselves locally, re-duce their dependence and claim their rights.
• The target population defends itself against negative consequences on their living conditions (land grabbing, pollution, etc.) and achieves positive changes in terms of policies, agree-ments, standards or laws.
• Men and women are individually and collectively empowered to defend themselves against unjust structures and to participate actively in political, cultural and economic life.

• In response to the adoption of the SDGs by the world community, FO is seeking new collabora-tion modalities with its partner organizations (in form of international programs) and is adjusting its instruments accordingly.
  
• Together with SDC and other institutional part-ners, FO has introduced coherent and consistent standards for the Prevention of Sexual Exploita-tion and Abuse (PSEA) and functioning compli-ance mechanisms for a protected reporting and independent treatment of cases of inappropriate behaviour.
• FO has actively contributed to the dialogue on the future of international cooperation with their expertise and experience.

Resultate von früheren Phasen:  

In collaboration with its partner organizations, FO reached directly:

• Over 610,000 people in 14 countries (53 % wom-en). 84 % of those reached have to deal with food security issues.
• Over 350,000 people, whose right to food was promoted through self-organization in savings / solidarity groups: The partner organizations in In-dia, Madagascar and Senegal estimate that near-ly one million people benefited. The jointly saved money / grain was given as interest-free loan for emergencies to the members of the savings / solidarity groups. For instance, In India over 11,000 food loans strengthen the food security of the target group.
• In Senegal, 121 villages successfully claimed public services after having organized in interest groups: 8 villages were connected to a road, 5 villages now have access to clean drinking water and 108 villages received school and health kits.
• 7295 people (3434 women and 3861 men) bene-fited from the completion of legal land registra-tion processes in Brazil.
• Contribution to the water consortium of various Swiss aid organizations, which is massively im-proving water and sanitation coverage, while trig-gering innovation and knowledge-sharing as well as raising Switzerland’s profile in advocacy and policy dialogue.
• Learning Forum exchange: market-oriented ap-proaches to strengthening organic farming and food systems Exchange / Feedback on the Inter-national Program “Energy and Climate Justice "
• A contract regulating the bilateral cooperation with Brot für alle could be concluded in 2017.
