Liberia: crise Ebola – achat et envoi de matériel de protection
The current Ebola outbreak across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone has surpassed all other outbreaks in terms of cases, deaths and geographic spread. The Multilateral organizations and the Governments’ bodies have beefed up their responses in the affected countries in their respective fields. Human and financial resources needs have increased and the Ministry of health and Social Welfare of Liberia has requested supports in in-kind medical materials and consumables.

Hintergrund |
The scale of the ongoing Ebola outbreak is unprecedented with reports of over 13’000 cases and 4’900 deaths in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia since March 2014 - already far higher than the previous most lethal outbreak which killed 254 people in Congo in 1995. This is the first time that an Ebola outbreak affects West Africa. And for the first time the Ebola virus is circulating in both urban and rural communities. The current outbreak reached unprecedented levels, which can be linked to several challenges faced by affected countries: fragility of the health systems, inexperience and misperceptions with Ebola outbreaks, high mobility of populations and urban infection. At present, the national health system in Liberia is trying to cope with the epidemic, and has requested in-kind support to provision health centres with medical goods. |
