Die „New Seed Initiative for Maize in Southern Africa“ (NSIMA) erforscht einerseits Maissorten, die tolerant sind gegen Trockenheit. Diese können auch bei geringer Bodenfruchtbarkeit höhere Ernten erzielen als herkömmliche Sorten und somit zur Ernährungssicherheit beitragen. Das Projekt arbeitet mit staatlichen und privaten Akteuren des Mais-Sektors zusammen, um die Produktion und den Handel von Saatgut (auch für Kleinproduzenten) zu fördern.

Nargis reconstruction storm shelters

The access to formal education in the Cyclone Nargis affected Delta of Myanmar is improved through the provision of permanent School/Storm Shelters emphasizing on primary education and a “safe heaven” for communities in case of natural disasters. Outcomes: (1) Improved access to formal education is established and education services are provided in the reconstructed buildings. School attendance has increased. (2) Where a school is rebuilt the community has access to a safe storm shelter in case of disaster. School communities are knowledgeable in disaster preparedness and response.
