Ambassador, Assistant Director General and Head of Europe and Middle East Division

Didier Chassot studied international relations at the Geneva Graduate Institute (formerly the l'Institut universitaire de hautes études internationales, IHUEI). He began his professional career as an ICRC delegate on missions in former Yugoslavia and Angola. From 1996, he worked for the FDFA in Bern, Strasbourg, Sarajevo and Ankara. From 2016 to 2024, he served as Switzerland's ambassador in Caracas and Dar es Salaam.
As head of the Europe and Middle East Division, Didier Chassot is responsible for implementing country and regional programmes and for the Cooperation Offices. In his role as Assistant Director, he also contributes to the strategic positioning of Switzerland's international cooperation.
Didier Chassot is, and wants to be, a generalist whose professional career has enabled him to discover a variety of horizons, contexts, peoples and challenges. These experiences have strengthened his commitment and his convictions based on openness, solidarity, humanism and his attachment to Switzerland.
Passionate about basketball (let's go Knicks!), he also dives, hikes and - naturally - skis. Besides the national languages, he speaks English and Spanish, and has knowledge of Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Turkish and Kiswahili.
He is married and father of three children.
