General contribution to the UNV Special Voluntary Fund (SVF) 2021
The United Nations Volunteer (UNV) Programme promotes volunteerism as a means to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Swiss contribution to the Special Voluntary Fund (SVF) enables UNV to support member states and the UN system to harness the power of volunteerism through the mobilization of national and international volunteers and the integration of volunteerism into national and global policies.

Contexto | In 2012, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) approved a Resolution calling on UNV to promote youth volunteerism and to influence the institutional framework for volunteerism in developing countries. It also asked the international cooperation actors to actively support this commitment and In addition, the 2015 UNGA Resolution on "Integrating volunteering into peace and development: the plan of action for the next decade and beyond" recognized volunteerism as an effective means of implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. |

Resultados previstos: Outcome1 - 5 new additional Member States supported to develop programmes, policies and legislation that promote volunteer action. - 25 additional national plans of action for promotion of volunteerism developed Outcome 2 - 7’500 onsite UN Volunteers deployed (of which 2’500 peacekeeping and special political missions) and another 16’000 online volunteers per year active. 95% of UN organizations reporting positive contributions of UN Volunteers to their mandate. Resultados de las fases anteriores: · In 2019, 8’282 UN international and national Volunteers from 162 nations served in 154 countries with 54 United Nations partners[1]. This is an all-time high and 15% increase from 2018. · UNV supported the development of policies and legislation of volunteerism in 5 member states[2]. · 13,186 Online Volunteers provided services to 33 UN entities and international organizations and 183 CSOs and public institutions. · In 2019, 93% of UN organizations reporting positive contributions of UN Volunteers to the delivery of the programme results. · 51% of all UNV were female in 2019, thus reaching gender parity for the first time · At the intergovernmental level, UNV ensured the inclusion of volunteer groups in the Sustainable Development Goals outcome document. - As response to Covid-19, UNV mobilized an additional 70 UNVs funded through the SVF for deployment in countries severely affected by the crisis in early 2020. [1] 25% with the peacekeeping forces, 32% with UNDP, 10% with UNHCR, 7% with UNICEF, 4.5% with UNFPA and 3% with UN Women [2] Namely Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Sri Lanka, and Uganda. |
