Core contribution to the UNV Special Voluntary Fund 2022-2024
The United Nations Volunteer (UNV) Programme promotes volunteerism as a means to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Swiss contribution to the Special Voluntary Fund (SVF) enables UNV to support member states and the UN system to harness the power of volunteerism through the mobilization of national and international volunteers and the integration of volunteerism into national and global policies.

Contexto | In 2012, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) approved a Resolution calling on UNV to promote youth volunteerism and to influence the institutional framework for volunteerism in developing countries. It also asked the international cooperation actors to actively support this commitment and in addition, the 2015 UNGA Resolution on "Integrating volunteering into peace and development: the plan of action for the next decade and beyond" recognized volunteerism as an effective means of implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. |

Resultados |
Resultados previstos: 1) Expand the opportunities with UN entities for more and diverse people (different countries, including people with disabilities) to support integrated approaches and bring together UN peace, humanitarian and development efforts; 2) Motivated, well-equipped volunteers mobilized to contribute to UN peace, humanitarian and development efforts; 3) UN partners are provided with more efficient and timely services; 4) UNV institutional capacity is further strengthened; 5) Brokering of data, research, evidence, and knowledge on volunteerism for the SDGs is enhanced; 6) Integration of data and evidence on volunteerism for the SDGs is strengthened among Member States and UN entities. Resultados de las fases anteriores: - In 2021, 10’921 UN international and national Volunteers from 162 nations served in 160 countries with 56 United Nations partners. This is an all-time high and 15% increase from 2020. - 66% of the international volunteers come from the Global South. 53% of all UNVs are women. - In Benin, Botswana, Ethiopia, Guinea, Madagascar, Malawi and other countries, UN Volunteers served as Africa Women Health Champions and helped to promulgate critical health messages about COVID-19, cholera and Lassa fever and to strengthen national emergency preparedness systems. - At the intergovernmental level, UNV ensured the inclusion of volunteer groups in the Sustainable Development Goals outcome document. |
