Gostivar Water Supply, North Macedonia

The Municipality of Gostivar is situated in the western part of Macedonia. The only water source for Gostivar is spring water, which is of mainly good quality. However, the high water turbidity requires a treatment. The Macedonian Government has built a new Drinking Water Treatment Plant out of its own funds. SECO intends to fund two additional components: a new storage reservoir of 2’000 m3 for treated water, to ensure 24 hours uninterrupted water supply and a Drinking Water Master Plan for Gostivar that will identify the measures needed to reduce the high water pressure in the network and the related water losses.

The overall objective of the project is to improve the quality of the water supply in the city of Gostivar and the surrounding villages and the use of the water resources in general.

The quality of the water supply of Gostivar and the surrounding villages is improved and the conditions for an efficient use of the water resources are created.

The conditions for the planned improvement of the water drinking water system of Gostivar are established

The project contributes to balance the regional disparity of the SECO portfolio in Macedonia (so far concentrated in the eastern part of the country).
