Mali : ACF-E - Projet d'amélioration de la Sécurité Nutritionnelle dans le cercle de Tombouctou - PASEN

Au Mali, 34 % des cas de mortalité infantile sont associés à la sous-nutrition. Ce taux est encore plus critique à Tombouctou, où la précarité climatique et économique est couplée à l'insécurité. C'est pourquoi, la Suède et la Suisse joignent leurs efforts pour assurer la prise en charge des besoins nutritionnels urgents d'enfants malnutris et pour renforcer les actions de prévention. Pour assurer la durabilité des interventions, le projet prévoit également une implication plus importante des communautés et des institutions locales dans la prise en char e et révention de la malnutrition.

Global Knowledge Partnership on Migration and Development (KNOMAD)

Migration is one of the 21st century’s defining features that significantly impacts economic and social development. It is thus crucial to ensure that the positive effects of migration on development are maximized, while the negative ones minimized. This is only possible if reliable evidence on migration and its interrelations with development is available. KNOMAD generates ground-breaking research and policy recommendations in the field of M&D. Switzerland has taken a lead in building-up KNOMAD as a pioneering knowledge initiative.

Africa-Europe Diaspora Development Platform (ADEPT)

Africa and Europe are intrinsically linked with respect to migration. Swiss support to the pioneering Africa-Europe Diaspora Development Platform (ADEPT) contributes to strengthening the capacities of African Diaspora Development Organisations based in Europe, including in Switzerland, to promote sustained development in Africa. As ADEPT and its members are active throughout the African continent, a support to the platform allows an outreach in Africa with a relatively limited financial investment.

Retain Access in Afghanistan (RAA)

The security situation in Afghanistan remains a major concern for humanitarian and development actors. They depend on reliable security reports and advisory services, on independent analyses of political events and trends, and on physical access to remote and conflict-affected areas. With this project, strengthening the humanitarian-development nexus, the SDC enables interventions that are essential for poor populations and people in need of humanitarian assistance and development aid.

United Nations World Bank „Humanitarian Development Peace Initiative“ (formerly „UN – World Bank Fragility and Conflict Partnership Trust Fund”)

The “Humanitarian – Development - Peace Initiative” (HDPI) is a joint effort by the United Nations (UN) and the World Bank aim to increase aid efficiency in contexts affected by fragility, conflict and violence through working closer together across the humanitarian – development – peace nexus. For the past eight years, Switzerland has been supporting the UN – World Bank partnership both politically and financially and is in a good position to promote further institutionalisation and scale-up

Long-term farming system comparisons in the tropics

Conventional agriculture based on high external inputs resulted in productivity increases but has high negative external costs. Alternative systems exist but information on their performance is scarce. This long-term system comparison led by the Swiss Research Institute for Organic Agriculture provides scientific evidence on the productivity, profitability and environmental impacts of organic agriculture compared to conventional agriculture in four production systems of the tropics.

The main accent of PARIS21’s activities is to stimulate the dialogue between data producers and users and act as a knowledge hub in the field of statistical capacity building.

Asset Recovery Support Project

Systemic corruption, including the illegal appropriation of public assets by political-business elites has afflicted Ukraine for over two decades. Given the impetus for reforms following the Maidan revolution in 2014, as well as the large quantities of Ukrainian assets frozen in Swiss banks, Switzerland sees an opportunity to facilitate the return of public assets to Ukraine. This project provides technical assistance to strengthen Ukrainian authorities’ capacities in asset recovery.

Climate Risks and Early Warning Systems (CREWS) Partnership

The global Climate Risks and Early Warning Systems (CREWS) Partnership supports Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States in creating necessary human capacities to generate and communicate climate and weather risks timely and effectively. This allows to save millions of lives and significantly reduce economic losses caused by natural disasters and a changing climate. Providing Swiss development, humanitarian and insurance expertise to the CREWS Partnership will contribute to increased impact and sustainability of public and private investments in this field.

Strengthen accountability for women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health

The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH) ensures that efforts of the many stakeholders involved in maternal, newborn, child health as well as sexual and reproductive health and rights, are well coordinated at global and national level. SDC supports PMNCH’s accountability work so as to contribute to more effective and efficient use of resources in this priority public health area, including of the funding provided by Switzerland.

Support to the Trust Fund for a reformed Resident Coordinator System of the United Nations

If the UN Development System is to provide efficient support for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, it needs to be reformed. Switzerland has been advocating for this reform. One important element is the strengthening of the UN Resident Coordinator System. With this contribution to the Trust Fund, Switzerland will keep its leadership function in the UN Development System by shaping the transition phase of two years towards the new system.
