Long-term support to UNRWA’s reform

Through this contribution, Switzerland enables UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) to pursue the implementation of two key reform areas from its Medium-Term Strategy 2016-21, namely: the Resource Mobilization Strategy and the Protection Framework. These reforms will improve UNRWA’s ability to deliver its core services by stabilizing the Agency’s financial situation and by strengthening its capacities to deliver its protection mandate.

Rural Household Production Units experience various difficulties preventing them from establishing themselves sustainably and competitively in the market. The Rural Markets project successfully applied the market systems development approach. It now aims to induce systemic changes and a scaling up of markets for producers in new regions of productive potential. Support of non-financial services combined with financial services will establish synergies between public and private actors.

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

Los actores de la cadena de valor del cacao centroamericano mejoran su productividad, establecen alianzas público-privadas, respetan los derechos económicos, sociales y culturales y reducen su impacto ambiental. Gracias al programa, 4.500 familias productoras aumentarán sus ingresos anuales netos en al menos un 10%, mientras que 4.000 adultos jóvenes y 2.000 mujeres obtendrán acceso a empleos sostenibles. Esto impulsará la economía local en las áreas pobres y periféricas en las que se cultiva el cacao.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation has been supporting the Climate and Clean Air Coalition since 2014. Today, the Coalition is a recognized platform bringing together country, inter-governmental and non-governmental partners to take action to reduce short-lived climate pollutants. Since the declaration of independence in 2008, Kosovo has been engaged in the reform and decentralisation of its public authorities with the aim of strengthening autonomy and local democracy in its 38 municipalities. The SDC's “Decentralisation and Municipal Support” project (DEMOS) aims to help municipalities enhance democratic governance and municipal management and provide better public services, thereby supporting Kosovo in its transition to a democratic and decentralised state.
