Pakistan: DRC/ICMC, Provision of WASH Services to Afghan Refugees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Access to clean drinking water and a proper sanitation environment for Afghan refugees, especially women and children, is difficult in refugee camps in Pakistan. The project contributes to the reduction of water borne diseases and thus the improvement of living conditions in the selected camps in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The project foresees improvement and construction of WASH infrastructure, the support of the Afghan refugees with its management and the link to local authorities for the sustainability of the project.

Performance-based Health Basket Fund

With its contribution to the health basket fund Switzerland supports the Government of Tanzania, in particular local governments, to accelerate equitable access to health services by women, children and isolated rural populations. Switzerland, as chair of the health development partners group, will lever the Fund resources through policy dialogue to create an innovative financing modality to ensure the utilization of all Tanzanians of quality health services.

Contribution to Law and Order Trust Fund for Afghanistan (LOTFA)

For the benefit of Afghan women, men and children as well as of the rule of law in Afghanistan, the Law and Order Trust Fund for Afghanistan (LOTFA) contributes to a more human rights compliant, institutionally strengthened and more gender balanced Afghan National Police. Amongst other, it supports community policing as well as the recruitment, retention and training of policewomen and the improvement of their working conditions.

JOR Medair Multi-sectorial Emergency Assistance to Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians

Closely 629,000 Syrian refugees are registered in Jordan. Many households are struggling to meet their basic needs. 84% of Syrians are hosted outside refugee camps, 86% of which are living under the poverty line. The project aims at: a) meeting the immediate basic needs of Syrian refugees, b) expanding employment and livelihood opportunities, and strengthening coping capacities of vulnerable Jordanians who have been impacted by the crisis. This project will focus on multi-purpose cash assistance, livelihoods, health and legal support.

Gestion des eaux de ruissellement dans le Tchad sahélien

Le Tchad sahélien est caractérisé par une dégradation continue ainsi qu’une gestion non durable des ressources naturelles. Grâce aux seuils d’épandage, à la réhabilitation et à l’aménagement de plusieurs vallées, la DDC améliore la gestion de l’eau, réduit la désertification des bas-fonds et contribue à la sécurité alimentaire d’un million d’habitants. Les effets attendus des ouvrages construits permettront une extension des surfaces cultivables et la gestion équitable par les organisations des bénéficiaires.

OCHA - Support to Yemen's Humanitarian Pooled Fund

The Yemen Humanitarian Pooled Fund (YHPF) replaced the Emergency Response Fund (ERF) in February 2015. The YHPF aims to promote a strategic and coordinated response towards the highest humanitarian priorities of the Humanitarian Response Plan (standard allocation) or due to acute emergency needs (reserve allocation). It provides funding for projects of national and international NGOs, UN agencies as well as IOM and Red Cross/Red Crescent organizations.

Building Skills for Unemployed and Underemployed Labour (B-SkillFUL)

50,000 poor and disadvantaged men and women will improve their skills and out of them at least 70% will be gainfully employed. The resulting increase in their incomes will contribute to their better well-being and overall poverty alleviation. The employment conditions of workers in the informal sector will be improved through partnerships between the Informal Sector Industry Skills Council, enterprises and training service providers.

Somalia Resilience Programme (SomReP), Somalia

In the fragile and conflict affected context of Somalia, SDC contribution to the Somalia Resilience Programme Consortium (SomReP) enables pastoral, agro-pastoral and peri-urban poor to increase their ability to prepare for, adapt to and live through shocks (e.g. drought) without eroding their productivity or assets. While focusing on capacity building, livelihood diversification and the elaboration of community-based early warning systems, this initiative is complementary to ongoing resilience and emergency relief oriented interventions.

Strengthening Oversight Function and Transparency of the Parliament

To benefit Citizens whom they represent, parliamentarians have an important stake in law making including accurate consultation mechanisms. Equally important is their oversight function over the executive's expenditures. Also, the representation of Citizens as per their political power and regional affiliation reflects important features of an effective parliament. The intervention will address identified shortcomings both in the National Assembly as well as in local assemblies of Serbia, thus enhancing their democratic legitimation.

The various humanitarian interventions in South Sudan require an excellent donor coordination and justifiable prioritization procedure. The Common Humanitarian Fund (CHF) South Sudan, established in 2012, does not only provide timely and substantial financial provisions for humanitarian projects, it also brings together several important stakeholders involved in the humanitarian response in South Sudan. Contributing to the CHF means to strengthen this mechanism and enable financial support to the most critical interventions, but it also ensures the inclusion of SDC in decision making processes and facilitates a coordinated and strengthened advocacy within the international community.

Malteser: Strenghtening Disaster Resilient Communities and Local Risk Management to Minimize Loss and Damage in Rakhine State

The project links disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation. It will seek to strengthen the resilience of communities to disasters through the development of adaptation plans, trainings and afforestation/reforestation of mangroves. The construction/rehabilitation of disaster resistant infrastructures will make evacuation points more accessible. And finally, the capacities of local authorities responsible for the coordination of the response in case of emergency will be strengthened.
