The programme aims at improving maternal and child health and reducing mortality in Somalia. The JHNP focuses on maternal and child health with a substantial component allocated to strengthening the health systems (federal and decentralised) needed to make service delivery work. In addition, policy dialogue at national and regional level will be systematically promoted, as well as donor coordination and aid effectiveness principles in fragile contexts (New Deal).

The rural poor in Afghanistan suffer from a lack of access to basic services and markets. The proposed labour based road construction project addresses these pressing needs of the people and complements an ongoing Swiss livelihood intervention. Through predictable income, the rehabilitation of vital rural infrastructure and thereby ensuring access to services and markets, the project contributes to improve the lives of men, women and children.

IGAD and FAO will jointly contribute to build resilience of communities in the Horn of Africa’s cross-border areas by addressing marketing and trade, transboundary animal diseases and natural resources management. It will also contribute to strengthen the capacity of IGAD specialized agencies to lead the regional agenda for the improvement of cross-border pastoral livelihoods.

Due to reinforced security controls at European boarders, an increasing number of irregular migrants remain blocked in Morocco. Despite some improvement since the announcement of the new migration policy, abuse of migrants still persists. Stranded migrants live in very precarious conditions and as a result many of them wish to leave Morocco and return to their home-countries. This project responds to a humanitarian need and offers stranded, irregular migrants the possibility to return and to be reintegrated into their countries of origin.

How can health systems be strengthened and sustainable financing mechanisms be created for the benefits of poor people in developing countries? The thematic module public health of the SDC’s and SNSF’s joint r4d Programme (Swiss Programme for Research on Global Issues for Development) will promote research on the service provision systems and financing mechanisms in the public health sector.

Tajikistan is the poorest country in CIS region, and only 2.2% of the country's $6.9 billion GDP is allocated to the healthcare sector. Malnutrition and waterborne diseases are the main factors contributing to the child mortality rate (the highest among CIS countries).The present project will contribute to the ongoing health reform implemented by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, by improving the access of the targeted population (400'000) to quality family medicine services provided in the local Primary Health Care Centres.

Los efectos del cambio climático y el impacto de los desastres naturales continúan afectando a los medios vulnerables de la vida rural. El Gobierno de Bolivia priorizó la seguridad alimentaria a fin de reducir la pobreza extrema por medio de un importante incremento en las inversiones públicas en sectores de recursos hídricos (represas) y desarrollo rural (sistema de riego, conservación de suelos y sistema de alerta temprana). El riesgo de fracaso de tales infraestructuras es elevado debido a la falta de una gestión integrada de riesgos y Adaptación al Cambio Climático (CCA, por su sigla en inglés). El proyecto de la Agencia Suiza para el Desarrollo y la Cooperación (COSUDE) pretende fortalecer la resiliencia de las infraestructuras presentes y futuras en estos sectores.
