Gestión del agua y promoción de la paz en Oriente Medio: El agua, fuente de paz

Desde 2009, Suiza ha iniciado a un nuevo tipo de cooperación que combina la promoción de la paz y la gestión sostenible de los recursos hídricos en Oriente Medio. Esta región del mundo conoce una importante crisis que se caracteriza por la degradación y la desecación de numerosos recursos comunes de agua. Un informe independiente publicado en 2011 ha establecido que la gestión sostenible de los recursos hídricos a nivel político podría no sólo evitar catástrofes naturales y tragedias humanas sino también servir como un medio importante para promocionar la paz.

Afghanistan Subnational Governance Programme (ASGP)

Effective subnational governance is a fundamental part of Afghanistan’s development agenda. The capacity of subnational institutions at provincial, district and municipality levels is instrumental to peace and development of the Afghan people. The Afghanistan Subnational Governance Programme (ASGP) of the UNDP improves local government institutions’ capacity to govern and strengthens the oversight capacities of elected provincial councils on government performance and service delivery.

Supporting United Nations operational system reform through the implementation of the Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review (QCPR)

In order to enable the United Nations to address today’s development challenges, various reforms steps have to be conducted with a view to improve coherence, efficiency and effectiveness and thus maximize the development impact of United Nations’ development assistance. With this contribution, Switzerland supports the implementation of the main normative instrument for reforming the UN development system, the Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review (QCPR).

Local Economic Development in the Golfo de Fonseca Region

The project aims a promoting inclusive economic development in the Golfo de Fonseca Region, which is part of the dry tropical zone of Central America, particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The single phase Project, co-financed with IDB’s Multilateral Investment Fund, allows influencing larger IDB private sector operations and hence up-scaling. It also helps shaping SDC’s planned programs in local economic and value chain development.

UNICEF Strengthening peace building and Recovery Results for Children and Women - SDC Global Institutions Support

One billion children live in areas affected by conflict and high levels of violence. The changing nature of conflicts and the fragility of states are a big challenge for recovery and peace-building. The operational presence of UNICEF before, during and after conflicts makes it a key stakeholder with competence in transition from emergency and recovery to development. This project strengthens the rights of children in fragile and post crisis situations by building up systematic capacities and learning in conflict sensitivity, peace building and recovery in fragile contexts.

UNHCR Provision of winterized assistance to IDPs in Syria [BSL]

The deteriorating security situation in Syria has led to the internal displacement of 9.3 million individuals seeking refuge with host families, in public buildings, schools or in open space. For the winter period the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has developed a winterization strategy to address the basic humanitarian needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs). With the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), UNHCR will be able to provide winterized non-food items (NFIs) to families facing harsh winter conditions.

UNICEF Syr. WASH assistance to IDPs and host communities in Hassaka City

The conflict has been ruining the lives and Iivelihoods of millions. In addition, lt has disrupted power supplies, affecting in turn water services, forcing responsible technical staff of the water authorities to regularly run maintenance and operations of infrastructure of basic services. Safe drinking water, proper sanitation, and hygiene conditions have been negatively impacted, especially in the crowded collective shelters. This Intervention comes as a response to the assessment of Hassakeh City that indicates shortage in water supply as weIl as access to adequate hygiene and sanitation services for Internally displaced persons ( IDPs) and host communities (HC).

Contribution to the IFRC Emergency Appeal for the Philippines: Typhoon Haiyan

Since the Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines on 08.11.2013, an intense RCRC relief operation has been deployed in the most affected regions. SDC, while supporting a strengthened coordination among the RCRC components, enhances a local response while reinforcing the Philippine Red Cross capacity building in natural disaster.

Facilitating Access to Animal Resources and Markets in Agdam, Agcabadi, Barda, Beylaqan and Tartar districts of Azerbaijan (FARMS)

The project will contribute to the transition towards a free market system in target communities in central Azerbaijan through a sustainable increase of incomes of male and female farmers in animal husbandry using a market development approach. The central part of Azerbaijan has a good potential for inclusive growth in agriculture. However, lack of proper markets, services and knowledge prevent poor farmers to gain better incomes.

Rural Water and Sanitation Support Programme Kosovo (RWSSP V)

Since 2005, the Swiss Rural Water and Sanitation Support Programme has provided access to safe drinking water and sanitation to more than 150,000 people living in rural area. The programme is building infrastructure, strengthening managing capacity, and developing the sector framework conditions. It is expected that by 2017, 320,000 people will benefit and that the Regional Water Companies maintain effectively the water networks.
