Regional Research Promotion Programme

The programme promotes research in social sciences in the Western Balkans. While still having a rather marginal role, social sciences are highly relevant to bring forward social and political reforms in the region. Young researchers, in particular young female researchers, shall get their chance to conduct research according to international standards and thus remain motivated to stay in their countries of origin. In addition, research institutions get support to be prepared for increasing European integration.

Emergency Assistance For Syrian Refugees in the Kurdish region of Iraq

The challenges posed by the Syrian crisis had its impact in Iraq regarding immediate humanitarian needs for Syrian refugees. Currently, there are more than 150,000 Syrian refugees registered in Iraq. RRP 5 expects that the number of refugees in Iraq will reach 350,000 by end of 2013. This project aims at assisting extremely vulnerable Syrian refugees and affected host communities in the Kurdish region of Iraq through emergency.

WASH in Takhar Province

Takhar province is one of the most underserved areas in Afghanistan, especially regarding access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education (WASH). The Danish Committee for Aid to Afghan Refugees (DACAAR) has extensive experience in the WASH sector in Afghanistan. DACAAR will cooperate closely with Terre des Hommes Lausanne (TdHL), SDC’s partner in Takhar, to address the WASH needs of the most deprived communities. This project will sustainably improve their health status.

Appui aux media des Grands Lacs

Les médias des pays des Grands Lacs (Rwanda, Burundi. RDC) jouent un rôle clé dans la consolidation de la paix, dans le renforcement de la citoyenneté et dans la construction de la démocratie. Les médias sont confrontés à des difficultés d’ordre professionnel, économique, politique et juridique. Ce programme contribuera à la consolidation de la liberté d’expression et au droit à l’information, tout en renforçant les compétences et la pluralité des médias. 

Health Facilities Autonomy in Kyrgyzstan

The health reform in Kyrgyzstan has resulted in an increasing access to basic medical services. The management of the health facilities remains however centralized and the inefficient use of limited resources is still an issue. The project intends to improve the efficiency and quality of health care by increasing the autonomy of the health facilities in provision of their services. A Model of Health Facilities Autonomy will be introduced in 3 pilot provinces of the Issyk-Kul oblast and shall be applied in remaining health facilities countrywide. During Phase I, the legal framework to support the introduction of decentralized management in the health system will also be adapted.   

National Assembly Strategic Support Project (NASSP)

The role of the National Assembly is to represent the views of Lao citizens, enable citizens to participate in decision-making processes, and ensure that national policies answer to the needs of Lao people. SDC is helping the National Assembly strengthen its role as a legislative, overseeing, and representational part of government, in support of democratic development in Lao PDR.

Reforma del Estado en Somalia

La COSUDE apoya un proyecto de descentralización en Somalia. Su objetivo: promover la paz y el desarrollo consolidando las capacidades de los ayuntamientos para responder a las necesidades de sus habitantes. El proyecto muestra resultados alentadores.

Public Investment in Energy Efficiency (PIE)

Public Investment in Energy Efficiency (PIE) is a SDC and GIZ co-financed pilot project running from January 2014 to December 2016 (Phase-1). PIE will demonstrate how newly decentralized public funds can be utilized for much-needed investments in energy efficiency of public buildings in two remote western provinces of Mongolia. The project will empower the local population to actively participate in planning and budgeting of priority investments, which will result in improved well being and living standards for rural citizens.

On-Demand Services for the Governments of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan in the Areas of Agricultural and Regional Development

The project will facilitate the provision of on-demand services to the governments of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan in support of their reform agendas related to policy development and capacity building in the areas of agricultural and regional development.

Strengthening institutional capacity for treatment and care for HIV/AIDS patients

01.08.2013 - 31.12.2015

Quality and comprehensive provision of HIV/AIDS treatment will be expanded together with capacity development of nurses, health workers and doctors to provide Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) and Opportunistic Infections (OI) related services to poor people living with HIV/AIDS. The introduction of a task shifting model for health workforce teams supported by an Electronic Medical Record system into the public health system addresses institutional gaps of human resources as well as quality of health services.
