Food security knowledge platform and policy dialogue India

India, a potent emerging economy of 1.3 billion people, has an endemic food insecurity affecting hundreds of millions of people today and is home of half of the world’s malnourished children. Complex societal structures and political deficiencies are part of the challenge. The present project aims at increasing the policy coherence for effective action to improve food and nutrition security. It will do so by bringing new evidence on the fundamental problems to be tackled, and by stimulating the dialogue between people and institutions engaged in poverty reduction, agricultural production, food distribution and economic development in the States of Gujarat, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. Their joint engagement for better policies should help reduce food insecurity sustainably.

Local Governance and Community Development Programme (LGCDP) II

As a result of this project, the demand side of local governance will be strengthened through the empowerment of right holders. Social mobilization interventions will enable beneficiaries to more effectively demand public services and hold national and local governments accountable. Simultaneously, the supply side will be strengthened. As a result, local bodies with strengthened institutional capacity and resources will provide services more effectively to the people, esp. to disadvantaged groups. In addition, an enabling policy environment will be promoted. Inter alia, this will help to prepare Nepal for a future federal system, as and when this system is defined in the new constitution.

Safer Migration (SaMi) Project

SaMi addresses the needs of Nepali men and women who migrate to the Middle East and Southeast Asia on short term labour contracts. To reduce the financial and social costs of migration and to increase its financial benefits, the project facilitates access to relevant information, pre-departure skills trainings, legal and psychosocial support. SaMI also strengthens government’s capacity to effectively implement the labour migration policy and protect migrants. Some 170’000 people will benefit from the project over four years.

Program contribution to Human Rights & International Humanitarian Law Secretariat in oPt

SDC support to the HR/IHL Secretariat mechanism seeks to enhance the capacities of civil society organizations (CSOs) operating in the oPt to promote respect and adherence to International Human Rights Law (IHRL) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL). This will be done through the channeling of pooled donors’ funds, the building of institutional and advocacy capacities of HR and IHL CSO and promoting a dialogue between donors and CSOs. This will contribute to State building in the oPt, and to the creation of essential conditions for sustainable development and peace.

Swiss Contribution to the European Endowment for Democracy

Initiated by Poland and launched by the EU with the financial support of a number of European countries, the European Endowment for Democracy intends to promote democracy by supporting "agents of change" in the bordering countries of the EU in the East and in the South. Switzerland is represented in the Board of Governors and supports the endowment with a contribution of 1 million CHF earmarked for grants provided by the European Endowment for Democracy to projects.

Mainstreaming the Concept of Migration and Development into Strategies, Policies and Actions in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Diaspora for Development (D4D)

Bosnian Migrants contribute to progress in their country of origin. Nevertheless, their potentials to support BiH’s transition process and socio-economic development are to be mobilised systematically. Migration and Development (M&D) is a fairly new conceptual approach that entered already in relevant policies and strategies of BiH. Framing a consistent M&D concept in BiH requires a stepwise scheme: analysis, piloting and validation, definition, mainstreaming.

Jordan-School rehabilitation for Syrian refugee children and Jordanian students

32’000 Syrian refugee students are currently enrolled in Jordanian public schools according to UNICEF. With the conflict in Syria and the influx of refugees the number of students is expected to rise. The already overstretched Ministry of Education (MoE) is struggling to accommodate more students in the schools. As a burden sharing with Jordan, SDC is supporting non-structural rehabilitation works of 11 public schools in Amman area and the Northern governorates where Syrian refugee students are also enrolled. The project will be supplemented with a component on awareness campaign and a further component in which SDC supports the MoE with the integration of an IT management program.


Institutional Support to Network of Associations of Local Authorities in South East Europe (NALAS)

With an institutional support to the Network of Associations of Local Authorities of South – East Europe (NALAS), SDC supports the decentralization and democratization processes as well as stability in South East Europe (SEE). NALAS strengthens national associations of local governments and fosters communication and cooperation among them. Through its advocacy activities, NALAS will support local governments in SEE to become more visible and taken into account, both by national governments and European institutions.

Cultural Programme

This Programme builds on the richness of the Mozambican culture and its potential for human development. By supporting artistic education institutions or cultural houses, Swiss Cooperation aims at contributing to the strengthening of the country's social capital. Cultural Programme has five operational components, contributing to the overall objectives focusing on three provinces in North (Niassa, Cabo Delgado, Nampula) with a community-oriented focus - an area where Swiss Cooperation has pioneered the culture-for-development approach - as well as on the capital area of Maputo including its surroundings; further some will be to benefit of the whole country. Cultural Programme is moreover fully in line with Swiss Cooperation Country Strategy Mozambique 2012-2016.

Aga Khan Foundation: Integrated Health and Habitat Improvement (IHHI) Rasht Valley

Tajikistan is the poorest country of the former Soviet Union and is marked by a sluggish transition and fragility patterns. This project contributes to improving the Rasht Valley (the most neglected and fragile area of the country) population’s quality of life through better provision of and access to water and health services, as well as increased resilience against natural hazards. Moreover, it enhances professional skills and empowers the local population in planning and investing in its communities.
