Egipto ha emprendido un importante trabajo de modernización de su sector del agua y del saneamiento. Sin embargo, aún quedan desafíos por afrontar para que todos los egipcios, sin restricción alguna, dispongan de un servicio de agua potable equitativo y de calidad. A fin de avanzar en esta dirección, la COSUDE lleva a cabo un proyecto ambicioso en un barrio desfavorecido de la ciudad de Asuán.

Mercados para los fruticultores

Después de la caída de la Unión Soviética y el desmantelamiento de las grandes granjas colectivas, el sector de la fruta en Armenia consiste en su mayor parte en explotaciones de subsistencia. A través de este proyecto, la COSUDE ayuda a los fruticultores de la región de Meghri, en el sur del país, a sanear sus cultivos y a dar salida en los mercados a sus cosechas.

SDC partnership with The Culture and Free Thought Association in Khan Younis (Gaza) enables the institution to implement community development initiatives with youth (male and female) and other underprivileged groups in the impoverished and conservative Khan Younis area of Gaza.

The Sahel region faces periodic food crises due to climatic variations but also due to structural deficiencies in the countries. WFP implements food assistance programmes (e.g. school feeding) in the different countries of the region. SDC provides a financial contribution to the WFP country programmes of the four SDC priority countries. It takes part in the national coordination mechanisms to improve food security in the region and takes part in the policy level dialogue with WFP to strengthen its relevance, coherence and performance.

Promoting Gender Equality in the Western Balkans – a Swiss contribution to the World Bank’s gender equality promotion in the region

The SDC financial contribution to the regional programme of the World Bank will leverage on-going gender equality efforts by national governments, non-governmental or multilateral partners, thereby contributing to enhance women’s economic situation and their social status. As a response to persistent disparities between men and women in the Western Balkans, this project analysis causes and contributes to remove barriers to equality. Through its regional approach, this project complements country initiatives on gender issues.

IOM: Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration for Sub-Sahara Migrants

Tighter European borders have resulted in increased numbers of sub-Sahara migrants being stranded in Morocco where they live in precarious conditions without access to basic services and – due to Morocco’s reinforced fight against crime – are threatened by frequent raids and deportations. Under these circumstances, many wish to return to their country of origin. For the first time, the Moroccan government has expressed its willingness to contribute to a voluntary return scheme, subject to additional funding from donors.

Closing Rice Yield Gaps in Asia

SDC supports the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and its national research and extension partners in six major rice granaries of Asia (China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam) to develop science-based, quantitative tools and participatory methods to i) generate evidence, and ii) optimize ‘integrated sustainable irrigated rice production systems’ in order to close rice yield gaps and thereby enhance regional and global food security while minimizing the environmental footprint of irrigated rice production.

IOM: Improved protection for irregular migrants from Sub-Sahara Africa in Southern Egypt

Due to recent measures to secure the Egypt-Sudan border, an increased number of migrants has been apprehended and transferred to ill-equipped prisons/ police stations where they spend protracted periods in extremely vulnerable conditions. Smuggling and trafficking network have expanded over the last year. The proposed project will provide assistance to stranded migrants and Egyptian communities in needs, as well as capacity building efforts for government and NGOs to provide migrant-friendly healthcare services.
