UNDP is the leading UN organisation working on poverty eradication, governance, rule of law and conflict prevention. It also provides coordination and back office services to the UN Resident Coordinator System. Switzerland supports UNDP because it is its most important partner in the UN Development System to work on poverty eradication, sustainable development, good governance and conflict prevention.

Contexto | UNDP’s role is to ensure a coherent approach of the UN Development System in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. At country level, UNDP leads the coordination of the UN’s socio-economic response to the 2030 Agenda through its SDG platforms. Currently, UNDP leads the UN’s impact analysis and medium-term socio-economic response to COVID-19. In addition, it provides operational back office services to the office of the Resident Coordinator as part of the ongoing UN reforms. | |
Objetivos | UNDP is 1 of 16 multilateral priority organisations listed in the Swiss Strategy on International Cooperation 2021-2024. UNDP’s priorities are linked to all four priorty themes of the strategy, in particular economic development, human development, governance, rule of law and conflict prevention. UNDP contributes to Switzerland’s commitments to the 2030 Agenda. It also contributes to the reform of the coordination function of the UN Development System which responds to the Swiss prioritiy of making the UN system more effective and efficient. UNDP is the most important partner for bilateral engagements of SDC at country level. | |

Management level 1 (MO): Synthesis of the outcomes of the planned partnership phase UNDP’s vision for its Strategic Plan, 2018-2021 is to support countries in the implementation of the Agenda 2030 by by eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, accelerating structural transformations for sustainable development and building resilience to crisis and shocks. The mid-term review of the strategic plan conducted in 2020 has concluded that UNDP’s work on poverty eradication, governance, rule of law and conflict prevention is an essential pillar of the UN Development System activities in over 130 countries worldwide. UNDP has been assigned a leading role in coordinating the Secretary General’s call to action to support those people most hit by the long term socio-economic impacts of COVID-19. In addition, to further enhance organisational effectiveness, outcomes will focus on the performance of the audit function, transparency as well as increased performance of regional and country offices. In 2020, Switzerland co-leads the independent Multilateral Perfromance Assessment (MOPAN) of UNDP. The recommendations will provide useful guindance for enhanced performance for the remainder of the strategic plan period. Management level 2 (SDC/Switzerland): Synthesis of the outcomes of the new partnership phase with focus on outcomes and outputs covered by the Credit Proposal Through Swiss contributions: · UNDP’s work on conflict prevention, rule of law and core government functions is strengthened (nexus development-peace). · UNDP’s work for early response and recovery from crisis is strengthened (nexus humanitarian-development). · UNCDF’s inclusive financial markets and local development finance systems that benefit the poor and vulnerable people are enhanced. · UNDP’s institutional effectiveness, in particular evaluation, financial sustainability and gender parity amongst staff is enhanced. · UNDP’s full integration and implementation of the Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review (QCPR) recommendations and progress on UN reform is ensured. The representation of Switzerland as a Member State in UNDP is enhanced through an increased number of Swiss staff. |
