Contexto Since late July, Chad is heavily affected by torrential rains and the resulting floods. As of October 2024, almost 2 million people have been affected in all 23 provinces, with 576 casualties and over 217’000 homes destroyed. As rains are expected to continue, the humanitarian crisis is likely to intensify further. Due to the lack of access to WASH services throughout the country, the risk of an epidemic is high. Furthermore, the flooding will negatively impact food security in Chad. Already it is estimated that 3.4 million people will face severe food insecurity during the 2024 lean season – representing the highest value of food insecurity ever recorded for Chad.
Objetivos Contribute to meeting the urgent needs of 389’000 people in seven provinces affected by the floods.
Grupos destinarios

389’000 affected people in seven provinces (Mayo Kebby Est, Tandjilë, Batha, Salamat, Logone Oriental, Moyen chari, Chari Baguirmi) with the highest concentrations of vulnerable populations and greatest risk of further flooding

Focus on groups facing highest protection risks

Efectos a medio plazo
  • Communities in affected areas are restoring and enhancing their security and weII-being through emergency shelter and settlements and early recovery solutions.
  • Communities, especially in disaster and crisisaffected areas, restore and strengthen their livelihoods
  • The immediate health risks and the risks of waterrelated diseases in the affected communities are significantly reduced and the psychosocial impacts of the emergency are mitigated.
  • The access to water, hygiene and sanitation services is improved and good WASH practices increased to limit the risk of water-borne diseases through a community-based, dignified and sustainable approach in the targeted areas.
  • Protection, safety and backup mechanisms are strengthened by enhancing the existing protection capacity of affected communities and ensuring that all facilities, goods and services are dignified and safely accessible to all environments.
  • Communities in areas at high climate risk that are affected by flooding are gradually regaining their weII-being, safety, and inctusiveness, thanks to real-time access to protection services provided. They are better prepared and able to respond to future disasters.
