VEN:Tierra Viva - Aten. Int. com. indig
In line with the 2023 Humanitarian Response Plan for Venezuela, Fundación Tierra Viva will provide humanitarian assistance in the sectors of health, nutrition and livelihoods to indigenous communities in the state of Bolivar and Delta Amacuro, with the aim of addressing the emergency nutritional situation of children, pregnant and lactating mothers and adults. As well as the recovery and strengthening of agricultural practices.

| Contexte | The protracted humanitarian crisis has aggravated the precarious conditions in which Venezuela's indigenous communities live. According to the United Nations, indigenous populations lack public services that guarantee access to food, drinking water, health or support their traditional livelihoods. Nor do they have the minimum conditions that could provide opportunities to generate economic income to meet their basic needs. In addition to this, there are problems associated with the existence of illegal mining and/or irregular groups in their territories, forcing them to live in unfavourable conditions or to abandon their lands for new settlements. As a consequence, food production using traditional techniques has also been abandoned. In 2019, the World Food Programme reported that 7.9% of the population in Venezuela (2.3 million) is severely food insecure; and the highest risk index (21%) was registered in the states of Delta Amacuro and Bolivar, which registered a weighting of 11%, i.e. in moderate food insecurity. The situation of indigenous women in Venezuela is complex; according to the 2011 indigenous census (INEC, 2011), women represent 49.5% of the total indigenous population in the country. However, they still face multiple challenges, including discrimination, poverty, lack of access to basic health, education and housing services, and gender-based violence. |

Outcome 1: Provide access to essential health and nutrition services for pregnant and lactating women and children under 5 years of age. Outcome 2: Increase communities' access to basic water, sanitation and hygiene services and promote sustainable livelihoods. |
| Résultats |
Principaux résultats attendus: 200 pregnant women are monitored monthly and receive nutritional supplements during their pregnancy. 350 children receive medical attention and nutritional supplements. 80% of the cases of children with malnutrition are brought out of the water/severe malnutrition level. 2’100 people will receive medical attention in integral health. Under Outcome 2: 500 people trained in good livelihood practices. 500 people receive livelihood kits (agriculture, fishing and handicrafts). 10 rainwater harvests are achieved, and 1,000 people will have access to disinfected rainwater. 100 people are trained in rainwater harvesting and water purification techniques. 200 women from Bolivar and Delta Amacuro receive training in menstrual hygiene. 60 women from Delta Amacuro (in 3 of the 11 communities involved in the proposal) receive lingerie and sewing kits to make sanitary pads. |

| Coordination avec d'autres projets et acteurs | FTV is coordinanting with the UN System especially through participating in the relevant UN-Clusters: Health/Nutrition, Food security and Livelihoods and WASH. Coordination and research for synergies and complementarities is also realized with organizations from the civil society and international NGOs as well as with regional, national and local authorities. |
