***GLO: Capacity Clim. Observing CATCOS

Project completed

The expected impact of the intervention is an increased observational and scientific basis to inform climate and environmental policy decisions needed to predict, mitigate and adapt to climate change and health risks such as decreasing air quality, glacier changes impacting on natural hazards, regional landscape and the water cycle. Moreover, improved technical and scientific expertise and an enhanced capacity in the target countries to improve climate and environmental monitoring for the protection of life, livelihoods and property as well as environmental quality are expected. The expected outcomes are (1) Increased public availability and quality of observations of aerosols and greenhouse gases at four strategically located atmospheric stations and the Ganges valley; and glacier monitoring data from two strategically important regions in the world (Central Asia, South America) including global reference glaciers. (2) Increased capacity in each country to produce, manage and analyse climate and environmental data.
