Building Integrity Senior Leaders Day: Together Towards Transparency (Brussels, December 18, 2014)
On December 18, 2014, the Head of the Swiss Mission to NATO, Ambassador Bénédict de Cerjat participated to the NATO Building Integrity Senior Leaders Day at NATO HQ. The conference, held in the framework of the Tailored Building Integrity Programme for South Eastern Europe (BI SEE), gathered over 50 national representatives from SEE countries, the Lead Nations of the Building Integrity Trust Fund as well as subject matter experts. “Corruption undermines Democracies – young and old ones – hinders economic development and the Rule of Law. We do need all possible support that we can get to tackle this issue, but first and foremost we need the commitment from the highest level” said the Head of the Swiss Mission in his opening remarks. He also confirmed Switzerland’s readiness to continue its support into the next Phase of the BI Trust Fund through the Geneva Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF). Established with the support of a Swiss matter expert and launched in 2012, the BI Tailored Programme for SEE aims among others, to improve nations understanding of the risk of corruption in the defence and security sector as well as to develop benchmarks so that nations can monitor change in this area.
