Which documents should I submit with a national visa application?
Any stay beyond 90 days (work, study or family reunion) requires a residence permit issued by the Migration Office of the relevant Canton in Switzerland. For the list with the requirement documents please refer to the leaflets on this page.
The authorization of long-term stay visa D falls under the competence of the various Swiss cantons. The cantonal migration authority might ask for additional documents. Applications have to be submitted to the Swiss representation and will be forwarded to the respective authority in Switzerland. List of cantonal authorities

The application will be forwarded to the competent cantonal authorities in Switzerland for a decision. The Embassy of Switzerland can only issue the visa after approval by the competent authorities. The total processing time is approximately 8-12 weeks. This time is an approximation only and may vary considerably depending on the canton responsible and the elements of the application.
