In the field of governance, Switzerland seeks to enhance social inclusion and improve the provision of essential services and basic infrastructure (schools, roads, water systems) at local level. Humanitarian aid and development cooperation are closely coordinated in a nexus logic. Service delivery by Local Governance Units (LGU’s) is strengthened and citizen participation is enhanced in local planning and decision making. Particular attention is given to the meaningful engagement of women and young people, including through cultural and educational initiatives. In multi-donor programmes, the SDC advocates to include vulnerable and marginalised communities to leave no one behind. Switzerland contributes to addressing Palestinians’ rights to access land, water and other natural resources. It further supports the provision of essential services accessible for all through humanitarian and UN actors. UNRWA remains an essential multilateral partner providing education and health services for Palestine refugees as well as social protection for the most vulnerable in Gaza and the West Bank.
