Shahla regards every case of women rights violation as a human rights violation and she is never tired repeating that women should get empowered – socially, politically, economically – in order to play a more significant role in the life of the country.

Swiss Ambassador delivers speech at German studies department

On 1 March 2018, the Swiss Ambassador Philipp Stalder attended the opening ceremony of the first department of German studies at the Azerbaijan University of Languages in Baku. He gave a speech to the approximately 200 attendees, congratulating the university on the inauguration of the new department.

On 12th January, Ambassador of Switzerland to Azerbaijan, Philipp Stalder, held a press conference to announce upcoming cultural events and other activities of the Embassy throughout 2018. He also gave an outlook to the current economic and political developments in Switzerland. About 20 journalists from different TV and Radio Channels, newspapers and online media attended the event at the Swiss Residence.

On 29-30 November 2017, the Swiss Embassy in Baku organized a presentation by Dr. Lorenzo Amberg in two leading Azerbaijani universities. Dr. Amberg held presentations at the Baku Branch of Moscow State University (MSU) and at the Baku State University where about 70-80 students and faculties listened with much interest to both presentations with the titles “In absentia meeting: Lenin and Solzhenitsyn in Zurich" and "1917 through the eyes of Swiss educators".

Switzerland takes on protecting power mandate for Iran and Saudi Arabia

On 25 October 2017, the Swiss embassies in Riyadh and Tehran signed the agreements for Switzerland to represent Iranian interests in Saudi Arabia and Saudi interests in Iran. The Federal Council gave the green light for the protecting power mandate at its meeting on 25 October 2017.
