International Literacy Day is celebrated annually on 8 September to raise awareness of the value of a literate society and the challenges that still lie ahead. As part of a programme to improve access to education and the quality of basic education in Chad, the SDC is supporting literacy efforts aimed mainly at women.

Oases and palm groves in Chad: The struggle against desertification becomes organised

In the great oases of the north, where water is abundant, the conditions for the practice of market gardening and the cultivation of fruit trees are favourable. The production of dates and the activity of gardening provide revenues that families need to feed themselves and access education and health. For several decades, this remarkable potential has been threatened by growing desertification.

Programme d’appui à la formation professionnelle au Tchad

Le système de l’enseignement technique et de la formation professionnelle (ETFP) au Tchad ne répond, en l’état, ni à la demande du monde du travail, ni à la demande sociale. En s’appuyant sur les orientations stratégiques nationales, la DDC développe un programme de FP inclusif – prenant en compte l’équité de genre, les déscolarisés et non scolarisés – et innovant car visant à diversifier une offre de formation adaptée au contexte et répondant efficacement à la demande du marché du travail, en particulier du monde rural.


Opérationnalisation de la filière semencière au Tchad

Au Tchad, le système de production agricole est rudimentaire et les rendements sont faibles. Le pays est régulièrement confronté à l’insécurité alimentaire. La semence est le principal intrant utilisé par les agriculteurs. C’est pourquoi, la DDC contribue à faciliter l’accès à des semences de qualité et adaptées à leur environnement. Ce programme permet aux exploitations familiales d’améliorer leur production et leur revenu et développe l’auto-emploi des femmes et des jeunes grâce à la multiplication de semences.


FORMIFormation Insertion des jeunes au Tchad

Au Tchad, le système de l’enseignement technique et de la formation professionnelle (ETFP) ne répond ni à la demande du monde du travail, ni à la demande sociale. En s’appuyant sur des dynamiques existantes, notamment privées, la DDC contribuera durant cette phase de planification à la diversification d’une offre de formation de proximité adaptée aux contextes et répondant efficacement aux besoins de développement personnel des jeunes et des femmes en particulier et aux besoins d’une économie locale.



Morija - Food Aid Swiss Dairy Products (Africa)

Through the usage of food aid in the form of Swiss dairy products, Swiss Humanitarian Aid contributes to the prevention and treatment of malnutrition, undernourishment, and disease. The SDC’s Humanitarian Aid administers the credit granted by parliament for a yearly amount of some CHF 20 million destined for the purchase of Swiss dairy products and their use for the benefit of the needy. Its task is to ensure a sustainable, targeted, and closely monitored food aid.

Allocation of SDC Funding to ICRC Operations in 2017

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

Allocation of SDC Funding to UNHCR Operations in 2017

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to UNHCR operations allows the UN Refugee Agency to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance to refugees and internally displaced people in life-threatening situations and underfunded emergencies.


Allocation of SDC Funding to WFP Operations in 2017

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to WFP operations allows the World Food Programme (WFP) to respond proactively and to provide immediate food assistance in life-threatening situations.


Promotion des mutuelles de santé au Tchad

01.07.2016 - 30.06.2019

Au Tchad moins de 25% de la population a accès à des services de santé de base insuffisants et de faible qualité. Afin de faciliter l’accès financier des populations aux soins, la DDC soutient le développement d’un réseau de mutuelles de santé au sud du pays. Quelques 150.000 personnes auront accès à des services de santé de qualité et les bases d’une mise à l’échelle nationale des mutuelles seront établies. La DDC contribuera ainsi à la réalisation de la Couverture Sanitaire Universelle (CSU) au Tchad.
