Contexte | Egypt is facing increasing economic pressures, over-proportionally affecting the poor, in particular in Upper Egypt, where 55% of the population, remains below the poverty line. Agriculture, a key economic sector in Egypt, is at risk from climate change, such as heat waves, water scarcity and increased pest load is estimated to lose up to by 15% - 50% of its productivity by 2050. Smallholder farmers in Upper Egypt are challenged by weak extension services and lack of access to technical information, disfunctioning cooperatives and poor market access, exacerbated by the need to adapt to climate and economic changes. Women, mainly present in post-harvest activities, face additional challenges, in terms of access to productive assets, financing and financial products and information. |
Objectifs | Contribute to poverty alleviation and climate adaptation and resilience in rural Upper Egypt. |
Groupes cibles |
