Humanitarian Aid of the Swiss Cooperation Office for the South Caucasus has been funding the project “Vulnerable Households' Accommodation and Community Infrastructure Rehabilitation in Samegrelo (West Georgia)” through its implementing partner Danish Refugee Council (DRC) since 2006.
Over the years, more than 890 vulnerable local families were provided with house repairs, 15 small community infrastructure facilities were rehabilitated and 11 Village Development Plans were elaborated within the project’s framework in almost all the villages of the Zugdidi District.
The last project phase, spanning over 36 months, envisages the shelter assistance to 78 most vulnerable local families (including the provision of non-food items), repairs of three community infrastructure facilities selected by the communities of Jikhashkari, Chkaduashi and Akhalsopeli, and the delivery of more than 100 self-reliance-, business- and SME grants.
As part of the Humanitarian Aid’s phase-out from the South Caucasus, the given project also plans to construct 14 individual houses for the Zugdidi-based IDPs owing non-agricultural land plots.
The call for IDP applications has been launched by the Ministry of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia on 24 March, 2015 with a deadline on 3 April, 2015. For more information, please visit the following link: http://www.mra.gov.ge/geo/news/show/189/7038
