Attestations and certificates

You need to provide a specific attestation or certificate issued by a Swiss representation, e.g. a certificate of nationality and registration.

In so far as attestations and certificates are concerned, the tasks of Swiss representations abroad are governed by the Regulations of the Swiss Diplomatic and Consular Service (SR 191.1). In accordance with Articles 29-30 of these Regulations the representations are authorised to provide attestations on the basis of established facts.

In this context Swiss representations are expected to check every request and to verify, among other things, if a local authority or institution is competent for drawing up a document and if Swiss interests are involved.
