Coastal Protection of the City of Beira

Projet terminé

The overall goal of the intervention is to safeguard the city’s development potential and protect the citizens of Beira against the effects of climate changes by taking preventive measures against rising sea levels and more frequent and stronger cyclones. Within the framework of the Municipal Development Programme emergency repairs have been financed after the August 2010 breach through the construction of a protective seawall over a stretch of 500 meters. A technical mission assessed these repairs as a solid and effective protection against erosion as well as flooding. The proposed intervention will guarantee protection for the next 20 to 30 years, and can be upgraded to extend protection for the next 50 to 100 years.
